Job Posting: Knowledge Broker
Help Us Change the Narrative
At Supporting Survivors of Abuse and Brain Injury Through Research (SOAR), www.soar.redmillcreative.com, we’re people with purpose, coming together to change the narrative around intimate partner violence-caused brain injury (IPV-BI).
We are a registered charity and the only organization in Canada dedicated to IPV-BI. We explore the intersection of brain injury and intimate partner violence, educate members of the public and frontline workers to recognize and respond, and empower survivors to get the support and services they need to thrive.
The Role
In response to the growing demand for increased education on IPV-BI and the awareness generated through SOAR’s work, we are seeing more requests for training on this critical topic. This is an exciting professional development opportunity for advocates across diverse sectors to expand educational reach and enhance the ability of their peers to identify and address IPV-BI more effectively.
We seek individuals to become SOAR Knowledge Brokers (KBs) to deliver essential training to frontline workers in your community of practice to recognize and respond to IPV-BI. Using a Train-the-Trainer model, this role builds capacity within organizations and communities by delivering training, supporting learners, and ensuring consistent, evidence-informed practices on IPV-BI.
You will be equipped with knowledge, materials, and tools to deliver evidence-informed IPV-BI training within your own community of practice, building sector-specific capacity as a trained SOAR Knowledge Broker.

Beyond the Training
Key Expectations and Workflow:
- Workshop Execution: You run your own workshops with resources and content we supply, house, and update. Ideally, we are completely supporting you in the way you need it, especially with content and materials.
- Logistics: If delivering training and workshops is already part of your existing scope of work, some logistical arrangements (like venue booking, promotion, or local travel) may be covered by the organization you are represented by or by the requesting organization.
- Referrals: Our approach is to respond to incoming requests versus proactively organizing them, which means the requesting group typically does a lot of the background and logistical work. If an organization contacts SOAR directly requesting a workshop, we would put that organization in touch with the nearest and most appropriate KB.
- Increased Visibility: While your training is occurring, SOAR’s team will be conducting promotion to let national and provincial organizations know that there are now regional and sector-specific individuals trained across the country. This promotion is designed to result in bookings that can be led by this network of Knowledge Brokers immediately following training.
- Activity Level: The number of trainings you conduct per month or per year will vary.
You’ll receive:
- Powerpoint presentations with script speaking notes (short and long versions)
- Training manual
- Train the trainer resources
- Ongoing support
- Promotional materials
Time commitment
Will range from 7-10 days, ~ 50 – 75 hours
Breakdown:
- 3 day intensive + 2 days travel
- 1 day symposium + 1 day travel
- 3 days of online training meetings
- + folks who deliver workshops will have an additional 1 day delivery, 1 day travel.
Re: Ongoing training & support:
The plan was for these folx to end up as SOAR representatives such that they wouldn’t be going out and delivering sessions on their own whenever they chose or an opportunity arose. Moreso that SOAR would receive a training request and we would then reach out to the KB troupe to book a presenter. We would work with the client to book the space etc and we would then pay the KB for delivering the session. Each KB will be signing a legal document acknowledging they do not own the content and will only be delivering it on behalf of SOAR. Even if they are able to arrange/book sessions, it would all be done through SOAR and under the auspices of SOAR. In the perfect scenario, groups would pay SOAR and we would then pay the KB. does all that make sense? I don’t think we have any specific expectations on how many they’d deliver a year. If we decide we do, we could put that as part of the contract and it wouldn’t necessarily have to go here.We explore the intersection of brain injury and intimate partner violence, educate the public and those who work with survivors, and empower survivors to get the care they deserve.
