Job Posting: Together We Thrive Support Group Facilitator

You will be equipped with knowledge, materials, and tools to deliver evidence-informed IPV-BI training within your own community of practice, building sector-specific capacity as a trained SOAR Knowledge Broker.

Help Us Change the Narrative

At Supporting Survivors of Abuse and Brain Injury Through Research (SOAR), www.soar.redmillcreative.com, we’re people with purpose, coming together to change the narrative around intimate partner violence-caused brain injury (IPV-BI).

We are a registered charity and the only organization in Canada dedicated to IPV-BI. We explore the intersection of brain injury and intimate partner violence, educate members of the public and frontline workers to recognize and respond, and empower survivors to get the support and services they need to thrive.

The Role

We seek individuals to become facilitators for SOAR’s “Together We Thrive” online, monthly peer support groups for survivors of intimate partner violence-caused brain injury (IPV-BI). You will contribute to healing and growth for survivors by bringing them together to share stories, build connection and empowerment, gain coping tools, and learn from common experiences and subject matter experts. Your involvement aims to improve the quality of life and resiliency of participants while contributing to a model that can empower the creation of additional IPV-BI support groups nationwide.

Candidate Requirements

Who you are:

  • Personal or professional background in the gender-based violence (GBV) space, with deep care for the issue of IPV/GBV.
  • Have a background in social work and/or counselling.
  • Lived experience of brain injury or intimate partner violence, and/or IPV-BI.
  • Experience fostering and facilitating a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment in virtual settings.
  • Have the ability to build peer connection and facilitate meaningful discussion, adapting as needed depending on time and group needs.
  • Have a deep understanding of trauma-informed principles and practice.
  • Experience leading mindfulness meditation and grounding activities in a virtual setting is an asset.
  • Experience working with and/or in Indigenous communities is an asset.
  • One fluent French-speaking facilitator is required. If this is you, please highlight that in your application.

Key Commitments and Compensation

This is a contract position. As an independent contractor, the Together We Thrive facilitator will be entirely responsible for their own professional business costs, including income taxes, government remittances, and benefits.

Expectations & Time Commitment:

  • Participate in online training and review of SOAR’s program materials (~6 hours through mid-July – August).
  • Lead monthly virtual support groups between September 2026 – February 2027 (~3 hours per group), with resources and content SOAR supplies, houses, and updates. SOAR is responsible for sourcing all subject matter experts and guest speakers, scheduling groups, and creating relevant video links.
  • Connect with advocates and survivors in your region of Canada.
  • Participate in the evaluation of the training program / process (to take place in March 2027; may include surveys or brief interviews administered synchronously and asynchronously).

Compensation: $125 CAD/hour for training time, facilitation time, and preparation time.
